6 Reasons Every Mom Needs A Gym Membership

Please don’t hate me for saying you need a gym membership! It’s not because I think you’re unhealthy - but because I think you need it for your health, both mental & physical!! Here are 6 Reasons Every Mom Needs A Gym Membership

Childcare

I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t know anyone who will watch my two kids for 1.5hrs every day for $.67. BUT my gym does, if  I wanted to go there every day… I signed up for a membership at my gym when it first opened, so I got a special Grand Opening deal. It’s $20 a month.

To me, if all I used it for was childcare, that's an amazing deal and totally worth it. If my gym didn’t offer childcare, it wouldn’t be as valuable to me as a stay at home mom, so make sure any gym you’re looking into has childcare.

This is one of Ginny’s sweet “gym friends”. I work out with her mom both in class & when we’re at the gym together.

“Self care/ Me time”

If you’re not 100% invested in the whole gym & fitness thing, just think of going to the gym and dropping your kids off at childcare, as a hour of uninterrupted “me time”

You can sit on a stationary bike and read. Or just walk at a comfortable speed on the treadmill and watch a show or listen to music. You don’t have to do group classes or crazy workouts. Just get some guaranteed kid-free time. After all, you’re paying for it (hopefully at a great price)!

Getting “me time” at the gym is the best because it’s productive and good for my health!

Meet other Moms

I have met so many other mamas in the area through my gym! Some of my friends have even signed up at my facility!

I’ve been through a couple different mom friend groups through group classes. We all attended the same classes for a period of time - a couple years, months - just depends on how full & active the class was. We even met my son’s best friend at the gym, instant mom friends!

Our barre class a couple years ago. Still working out with some of these ladies, two years later!!

Guaranteed Indoor Outings

No matter the weather, your gym is always indoors and somewhere you can go when the kids are out of school.

Sometimes it’s hard to leave the house when the weather is bad but when cabin fever sets in, it’s nice to have somewhere to go and an outlet to get your energy out, both mom & kids!

Motivation & Accountability

Once I get on a routine (or back into it from say a vacation or childbirth) it's pretty easy for me to stick with it. I love having the accountability and seeing the same moms and women in my workout classes. It’s a sense of community and encouragement

Even if I’m not feeling like going to the gym that day, as soon as I get there and I’m working out with everybody, I always feel better and I’m glad I went verses not going at all.

One of our favorite classes - TreadFit! We do all kinds of interval training, fartlek training and body weight moves all while on the treadmill. It’s a packed class!!

Health & Fitness

If all those reasons weren’t enough to convince you that every mom needs a gym membership, maybe the main reason that people get gym memberships will. I have been going to my gym since I was pregnant with my first. So, for five years! I personally need a gym and a place to go in order to be active

Sure I could run outside by myself but that means the weather has to be decent, I have to go at a good time and I have to have childcare. I have never been one of those people that can work out with my kids, either pushing them in a stroller or doing baby yoga. That’s just not my thing.

I’m not the healthiest person because of what I eat. But I would be 100x less healthy without working out. After working out through both of my pregnancies and beyond, I honestly can’t imagine NOT working out at this point.

I also cannot work out at home. I just have absolutely zero motivation to do it. I have so many other responsibilities and distractions at home, I just won’t do it. I need to physically get out of the house and go somewhere

Since I have childcare at my gym, I am guaranteed a work out. Whereas at home I may not be guaranteed a work out if a child needs something or “something comes up”.

Pro Tip

If the cost of a gym membership is daunting to you, wait for the deals! Like I said, I got a Grand Opening deal, but most gyms offer an incentive or sign up deal/bonus during holidays or certain times of the year. Some gyms & fitness programs even offer deals on Groupon. Try them all out before you decide!

Follow your favorite gym accounts on social media (Facebook & Instagram) and sign up for their email list/newsletter so you’ll always be up to date on their current deals & offers.

These are the main reasons I love having a gym membership. Yes, I absolutely do use & need it for health and fitness, but there are so many other benefits to having a gym membership that you may not have realized. Hopefully you found these reasons compelling enough to want to sign up at your local gym right way! I guarantee, you won’t regret it!!
