Easily Create a Kids Capsule Wardrobe for Fall

Easily Create a Kids Capsule Wardrobe for Fall

Happy fall y’all! I got some requests and major interest in kids fall wardrobe styles, so I thought I would share my kid’s fall capsule wardrobes and some outfit ideas. Here’s how to easily create a kids capsule wardrobe for fall!

Now that my kids are older, it’s getting harder to solely thrift all their clothes. I would love to, but there just aren’t a lot of options for a fully functioning everyday wardrobe in their sizes.

I get what I can (and what’s good) thrifting my favorite Goodwills. Then I pick a few really cute, on trend items (like henleys, printed leggings and cool joggers) from my favorite stores for kids clothes. And finally, I supplement whatever’s needed from Once Upon a Child.

If they’re still missing anything else, I’ll most likely go to Target because their prices are the best on toddler clothes, especially when they have a 20% off (or more) sale.

For Silas’ capsule wardrobe I always have a couple basic pants (jeans, joggers, khakis) and then a couple printed pants (usually joggers, casual pants). It’s fun to add textures in there too - fuzzy, fleece, cotton and terry.

So easy to mix & match a toddler boys wardrobe when all his pieces are a mix of solids & prints.

And then I mostly get him solid shirts with a couple graphic designs or patterns mixed in there as well. That way it’s really easy to mix and match all the pieces. I think it’s really fun to add graphics or stripes with a printed bottom too!

Neutral colors are the basis of both my kids wardrobes. Ginny in oatmeal and Silas in navy, denim and gray.

It’s good if everything is around the same color family as well. I like him in greens and blues, and then super basics like black, gray and white. But he is a little boy, so the fun stuff I’ll just pair with basics or denim. And it works!

His outerwear is really neutral and basic too - navy, green and gray.

I get all of my kids outerwear from Once Upon a Child. It’s much more affordable there and I can usually find better quality pieces.

Girls Fall Capsule

Ginny’s wardrobe has a lot of neutrals and basics. I also like to get fun print leggings for her and then pull the colors out in basic shirts so they can all mix and match together. Some of my favorite colors for her are pink and mint.

For Ginny’s capsule wardrobe I like to have plenty of leggings and long sleeve shirts. Her leggings range from denim, basics and prints.

If the prints have different colors, I like to have a basic shirt in as many colors as I can pull from that print, so I can mix and match other accessories like vests, jackets and hair bows. And she can get more use out of those leggings without it looking like the same outfit all the time.

I also like to give her basic everyday shoes, like tan booties, black and white shoes that could be worn dressed up or more casually. That way I don’t have to have 1 million different pairs of shoes for all her different outfits.

Toddler girl fall wardrobe pieces: cute girly outerwear and pretty fall tones like rust, mustard and mauve.

Most of her outfits/dresses are in the same color schemes as well. For her I like pinks, (obviously she’s a girl), mint, mustard and oranges for fall. And then I also like to have basics like black and gray since those mix well with the other pieces in her closet.

Hopefully y’all found this post helpful! I love picking out cute kids clothes and styling them a bunch of different ways.

Although I do feel like girls have cuter clothes than boys, there are still fun & unique ways to style toddler boys outfits, especially for fall. I hope you got a little outfit inspo too!
