Hawaiian Tropical Maxi Dress

I have been on the hunt for tropical print pieces this spring and summer season, for a few months now. And in one shopping trip, I was able to find two dresses in unique prints and beautiful styles that I absolutely love. I had been searching online high and low for specific designs, and could not find any that piqued my interest. When I finally visited the stores, that's where I hit the jackpot.

It's so great that tropical prints are in season this year, because I don't think they have been in the past. Usually it's just floral or bright colors for spring and summer, but not specifically tropical designs. Maybe there were if you lived somewhere tropical, but definitely not in the states.

The tropics hold a special place in my heart. My mom instilled a love of Hawaii in me early on. My middle name is “Lei”, which she came up with after visiting Hawaii while she was pregnant with me. They had given her a lei when she got off the plane, and she decided that would be the perfect middle name for me. I always thought that was so unique and special. She also had a vase of fake birds of paradise (the flowers on my dress) displayed in the house, because they reminded her of Hawaii.

Plus, I've actually visited Hawaii twice. Once when I was in 10th grade, and another time when I was 22. I absolutely love Hawaii. I love anywhere I can lay out on the beach, and be surrounded by beautiful scenery. There's also so much to do there that's new and exciting! But I think the thing that stuck out the most to me was their laid-back island time mentality. I have kind of involuntarily adopted thid lifestyle since becoming a mom, because my time is not my own.

I think that's probably true of any tropical or coastal living situation. There's just something about the beach/ocean that makes you want to take a step back and enjoy it. I know every time I visit Charleston beaches, I never want to leave. It's such a relaxing atmosphere, and I just want to be a beach bum all day, every day. I know that's not real life, that's what vacations are for, but man if I could live on the beach I would!

This dress reminds me Hawaii, and to have a more relaxed frame of mind - which is perfect for the summer days. My son is not in school, but I can appreciate what summer means, because I used to live for the summer when I was younger.

I found this adorable maxi dress at Target for the affordable price of $30. I also waited until there was an online sale, so I didn't actually pay that much. And good news for you too - Target is having a 30% off sale on dresses, RIGHT NOW. I have linked my entire look below for you, so you can shop the products too! Get 'em while they're available (and on sale) - they wont be for long!
